With all of the excitement from the first years' success, we began growing another giant pumpkin in May. Using seeds from the previous pumpkin, and cross-breeding them against giant pumpkins from Washington, we began growing the gourd with high expectations.
The months of labor continued, and the seeds grew more and more each day. But, the growth didn't seem to be what it was a year before.
As the fall months drew near, the pumpkins didn't want to change colors. With two big beauties sprawled across the lot, the pumpkins remained as green as the leaves from their vines. This year they would not be pumpkins, they would be giant squashes!
Ouch! The dream of a repeat was over. There would be no fame, no prizes, no orange pumpkins.
Halloween came and went. Dreams of another giant pumpkin would be put on hold to next year.
And the story continues...
